First of all, what is the NMAT?
According to the Center for Education Measurement, Inc., the NMAT, or National Medical Admission Test, is a standardized exam created to enhance the selection process of individuals applying to Philippine medical schools. It is an exam administered by the Center for Educational Measurement, Inc. (CEM) in the Philippines, and its purpose is to ensure that only qualified and competent individuals get the opportunity to be doctors in the future.
The NMAT is a two-part test. The first part tests your mental ability, while the second part tests your academic proficiency.
Each part has four subtests (or subjects), with Part 1 covering Verbal Aptitude, Perceptual Acuity, Inductive Reasoning, and Quantitative Skills. The second part, on the other hand, covers Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Social Science.
These are the fundamental subjects that you need to excel in as a future doctor.
Preparing for the NMAT can be daunting, especially if your pre-medical course is not science-related. In this case, RiseMD Reviews is here to make your NMAT journey easier.

Do you need to take the NMAT to get into medical schools in the Philippines?
Short answer: Yes.
The NMAT is a requirement for aspiring medical students to get admitted into any medical school in the Philippines, as per the Board of Medical Education (BME). It serves as a crucial screening tool used to evaluate the potential of an aspiring doctor, as well as their academic preparedness for medical studies.
While different medical schools may have varying admission criteria, the NMAT Percentile Rank (PR) score is often a key factor considered by admissions committees.
That is why your NMAT PR score is important especially if you are trying to get into medical schools that have relatively high NMAT score requirements, such as the University of the Philippines - College of Medicine and the Ateneo de Manila University - School of Medicine and Public Health which both require a minimum NMAT PR of 90 or higher.
Other medical schools in the Philippines also have high NMAT PR score requirements, like the St. Luke's College of Medicine - William H. Quasha Memorial Foundation and the University of Santo Tomas - Faculty of Medicine and Surgery which both require a minimum NMAT PR of 85, while De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute - College of Medicine requires a minimum NMAT PR of 80 especially if you are trying to apply to their scholarship programs.
On the other hand, not all medical schools require a high NMAT PR score like the ones mentioned. Note, however, that the general minimum requirement to get into most medical schools in the Philippines is 40. If you get an NMAT PR score of 40, you have practically checked the box of one of the admission requirements in many medical schools nationwide.
But if you are aiming for a specific school like the University of the Philippines or Ateneo de Manila University, then a higher NMAT score is a big deal.
You can learn more about how the NMAT PR score is calculated here.
Is the NMAT score alone enough to get into a medical school in the Philippines?
While the NMAT is undoubtedly important, it is not the sole determinant of your medical school admission.
Most institutions also consider factors like your academic records, a recommendation letter, or certain subject units that you must take -- it depends on your target medical school.
But if there is one thing that medical schools in the Philippines have in common, it is that they require you to take the NMAT.
Of course, the higher your NMAT score is, the greater your chances are to get into your dream school! Here are 20 medical schools in Metro Manila you can get into based on your NMAT PR score.
